Nordenskiöld stamps Finland 2008

Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld, the famous Finnish-born scientist and explorer, is the subject of a miniature sheet with two 1st class non-value indicator stamps to be issued on 20 October 2008. A Norwegian-born Swede Martin Mörck designed the issue. The engraved stamp sheet was printed by the printing house of the Danish Post operator.

In 2008 the Grand Prix for philatelic illustration by young people took place from 10 September 2007 to 29 February 2008. The drawing competition was organized by the Stamp Office in partnership with the National Tourist Office, Luxembourg City Tourist Office, the Museum of History of the City of Luxembourg and the Ministry of National Education.

Mika Waltari and Kimi Räikkönen

On 5 September 2008, a total of 11 new postage stamps were issued in four separate issues in Finland. Two of the issues are miniature sheets. One of them celebrates author Mika Waltari, who was born a century ago this year, and the other honors the 2007 Formula One World Champion, Kimi Räikkönen.

In the middle of the 19th century, the first agricultural school was created in the city Echternach. It was only in 1880 that the agricultural school was integrated with the secondary school in Ettelbruck. Then, three years later, the State Agricultural School was founded in Ettelbruck.

In 1908, the association called "Volksbildungsverein" (educational society) was created in Luxembourg City and extended so rapidly across the country that on July 31, 1910 a federation of popular education associations of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg was created.

Dogs and fireworks

On 5 September 2008, a total of 11 new postage stamps were issued in four separate issues in Finland. Among these new postage stamps were a postage stamp booklet about dogs and a fireworks stamp, which Finland Post uses to demonstrate the new Personalized stamp frame and to underline two birthdays: this year, Finland's postal service is 370 and the Personalized stamp is five years old.

Botanists and Plants

The earliest visitors to Ascension during the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries found very few plants growing on the island. The reasons for the scant vegetation were mainly two-fold. Firstly, in geological terms, this is a fairly young volcanic island. Little could survive in such a barren terrain with its tumbled lava flows, ash and clinker-strewn plains, and craggy basalt peaks, without water and beneath a fierce sun.
